In Which We Try Some Things That Didn't Work

I tried to consign.

I've been sitting on some items that are lovely, but big or heavy or super delicate, and I thought I'd walk into some consignment stores and everyone would jump with delight at my finds and offer me a little more cash than I paid.

That was not what happened.
This mirror is iron, and very heavy. It was made by Iron Art in the fifties, and I've had it for a few years. I loved it, and love it still, but I don't have a place for it, and it's so shabby chic-ish, and it's just not a "my house" item anymore. They didn't want it, because I hold it at a high price. There were other things - an adorable green vintage box fan, and an epergne (not my style at ALL) and some Pyrex ( I seem to be terrible at packing Pyrex). They said it didn't fit their asthetic, so I tried to be cheerful about it, and I listed the mirror on my etsy right away. With a ridiculous shipping price, but I weighed it, and I can always refund the difference.

In the meantime, Kate and I stopped at a lot of garage sales, thrift stores and church sales on Saturday! I bought the following:
An awesome tin! I love tins...love love love 'em, and this one has tufting or something, and was made in Western Germany.

This spectacular bank! Buckingham Palace Guard of Love Bank.

Vintage Leather Attache

More USA pottery, maybe Brush, maybe McCoy, I have to research!

A white glass cakestand with gold details!

Green glass candlesticks made in Italy

A very adorable plastic coral-colored sewing box.
And a million more treasures! I bought some clothes (gaining weight, grr!) and some embroidery hoops and a few mugs and odds and ends!
We had Sunday night dinner at Gails, and James held my face to give me a smooch, and it was just about the cutest thing I ever did see! Gail go it on camera!

i LOVE the jewelry tin!!!!

i used to sell on ebay. shipping costs are so expensive, that it is not worth it to try and sell many things. or maybe i am just lazy. you might have great luck at a garage sale. you never know! :)

I recently tried consigning for the very first time. I had to leave my box of stuff but they didn't call me so hopefully that means it all went out for sale. Bummer that they turned down your lovely things! That mirror is gorgeous.

Love the little soldier--you should have an Olympics opening ceremony party with him as the centerpiece. :)
