In Which We Travel Across State Lines

Miss Kate and I traveled to the Elephant Trunk Flea Market in Danbury, CT. We saw a lot of stuff, and I had to re-apply sunscreen THREE times in about TWO hours! It was hot, and this pale girl was feeling the burn, even with my 70 spray and a big floppy hat! Here's some of what I got:

Lion salt and pepper shakers and a spoon rest!

Birthday candle holder birds. They are heavy, but I think plastic.

A Lego (Japanese company in the 50s) paper mache bottle topper - she looks grecian to me!

A blue and white Pyrex bowl! It is in PERFECT condition!

This truly adorable girl (chalkware, plaster?) bookend. I love her kneesocks and her hands! There's a sticker on the bottom that says "Given to Bette about 1930" and it is stamped "Genuine Lucas-Ware" copyrighted. She is my favorite thing of the day!
Then Katie and I stopped at some tag sales on the way to Cracker Barrel (we don't have them in NY, so we don't go out of state without stopping for some, even if it is not on the way). One was giant furniture (um, that's a furniture sale, not a tag sale -sorry to sound snotty, but it was FAR off the beaten path and only had TREMENDOUS furniture for sale), and the other was completely overpriced (a $40 pitcher, from your garage?). Then, we went to  a tag sale in a lady's basement and it was packed with all sorts of things! My best find?

Tons of vintage cards! In boxes! Never used! With envelopes! And they are AMAZING! Seriously, I want to send everyone to myself because they are so cute-adorable-graphically HAPPY! love love LOVE!
Then we had Cracker Barrel, and belted out Chicago ballads on the traffic-y way home. A magical Sunday, indeed!

In Which we found a new hobby

One of my sister's in law's birthdays is in February, and I had decided to make her a necklace.
I don't know how to bead, or the tools required or anything like that. So, I bought all the stuff, and I have restrung the thing, like, 50 times, because I keep doing all sorts of things wrong.
Last weekend, at a church sale, I bought a beaded necklace for 1 dollar, and wrapped it around my wrist three times and was happy as a clam. Later that night, it broke all over my deck. When I was restringing it, and looking at the hardware holding it together, I had an epiphany! Paired with some web-based knowledge, I finally sort of got it!
So I restrung this one, and now have to get crackalacking on my sister in laws VERY belated bracelet. hmmm.

In Which Things are Tin-ny and There are Fathers!

I have bought a LOT of tins lately. I think that they are all so beautiful, and people love to buy them, either to house a special gift or to use on their desks or vanities. I think they're awesome, and I don't often see the same one twice!

This is a Rosenthal Netter planter. The colors are crazy vibrant! Lime-y green and bright blue!

 This dude. Is he a turkey? a Quail? I think he hangs on the wall. Maybe a sconce? A nosegay holder?

And Joe, my brother-in-law, a dad for the third time. I didn't take a lot of pics (running after two little guys) but I did get this one. Joe and Baby Joey. Happy Papa's Day!

Ladybugs

I made these enamel lady bug hair pins, and I really and truly love them. They are sky blue and so cute I want to crush them with my bare hands.

I want to see a million of them out there in the world in people's hair. A ladybug infestation, but only enamel ladybugs...good for the crops!

In Which we are Owl Done!

Katie and I went EVERYWHERE and I bought EVERYTHING!

Including these two adorable salt and pepper shakers!

And this brass owl magnifier!

And this rustic wooden cutting board (handmade by someone!)

And, leaving the owl theme, Andy and I went to the Habitat for Humanity Restore to look and see what treasures they have (tubs! cabinets! tiles!). They had some smalls, and I saw THESE diva-posed gents, playing golf and working the runway:

In Which WE are Finding Things Left and Right

In the middle of moving, I have unearthed a few treasures that I have yet to list. This is a little milkglass cannister with a Currier and Ives scene on it. I believe it was a giveaway from Maxwell house in the 1960s. It's pretty heavy and I think it's really cute.

In Which BABY JOE is welcomed

and I'm so totally late to the party!
Baby Joe was born on May 18, and weighed 8lbs, 6 oz.
He was 19 and one half inches long.
He is a good eater and a good sleeper, and overall a nice baby. He is not jaundiced.
His brother James loves him very much!
His brother Quinn doesn't really understand what/who he is, only that things are different.
His mama and papa need to get more rest, but seem to be doing okay.
Don't ask about his Aunt Feather. She's mostly knows as Stressy McSickypants.

But he is a very smart and beautiful baby!

In Which I'm Trying to Catch UP

Decided to clean out a little while packing, and had to bring some of Andy's old dishes to Goodwill. And then I looked around. I may have gotten a sweater and a dress and THIS COOL DUDE:

He's a bank! Blue and black owl bank that has a sticker on the bottom that reads "Aldermaston Sales, Glen Cove, N.Y. Made in USA" I think he's awesome.
A little while ago, I scored this awesome thrifty art:

It's a sailor's valentine! Shell art is awesome. I read an article about it once (maybe in Martha Stewart?) and always wanted to try it. These flowers are entirely made of shells, as are their leaves and stems!

Totally trying to sell as much as possible in the next two weeks...less to pack up!

In Which My Hoard of Yarn and Fabric comes in handy!

I have been packing. Stuffing yarn in to cushion the delicate things. Wrapping glass and ceramic in yards of fabric. It's like all my collecting has a purpose. Go, stash, go!

In Which There is Something to Celebrate!

Cat and Shannon celebrated their wedding last Saturday! It was at a state park with plenty of hot dogs, ribs and beers! Then, THE ICE CREAM TRUCK CAME! And PARKED! And we got to have as much of whatever we wanted! I LOVED IT! And it was fun to celebrate our friends, and defeat a unicorn pinata, and call everybody princess (which is apparently a sign that I am intoxicated!).
Andy and I had a great time with two people we love from the very bottom of our hearts!

In Which We Owe a Lot of Money

Andy and I own a home. That's a gigantic crazy thing to write. We bought a house. We will come home from work, pull into the driveway and go into this house, and it will be our home. And I won't think about everything we move in there having to move again, or whether or not it's worth the hole of hanging something on the wall. Big doings. A yard for Baxter. A garage to build things in. A basement with a washing machine.

And with the great things in life, we are always reminded of the fact that time passes, and people leave us. Andy's family has suffered remarkable tragedies and losses, and his oldest brother recently passed away, after being sick for a long time. My heart breaks for them.

In Which There is a MYSTERY....ooooohhhh

Two things I found this week:
1. this rad navy patent leather purse with no name, and a giant thick lucite bar on the top that connects the purse to the handle. It's cool, certainly vintage, but different than anything I've seen.
2. this is more of a thing I found OUT...James, my nephew, is scared of the Whoo-hoos, which are ghosts. They have no ears and they are outside the window. And he told his mama, "Mama,the Whoo-hoos are coming to YOU!" Not knowing that would totally creep Gail out...
The Whoo-hoos are NOT to be confused with the Scary Monster - who wears a moustache and is, actually, James himself ("Knock knock", "Who's There?" "Scary MOMER!!!! rAAHHH!...with a moooostash!")
Awesome.

In Which we Made Cake Pops

You can't see the cake pops here. We would pour sprinkles onto a plate for James-y to roll the pop in. He had a seperate paper towel of sprinkles that he could eat!
He got a cake pop, you can see by his face. You can also see that Gailie is pretty preggos. And she's still got a couple of months until New Baby Boy comes! Exciting times around these parts!

In Which We Spend Some Dollars

This weekend, on a weird little tour of our area estate sales with Miss Kate, we found this Fire King bowl:


the likes of which we hadn't ever seen before. There was another with blue circles that I bought as well. This one is signed "Fred Press," and though I can find other things with the signature, I can't seem to match this pattern.
I also acquired

A California Original brown bowl with a bright orange glaze inside. I don't know a lot about it, and I just started looking up info on the Interwebs about this company. There doesn't seem to be a lot of hardcore collectors or guides.
I've been picking up a lot of planters in anticipation of spring and buying a new house. I got this one:

with no markings on the bottom. It is a yellowish green and has handpainted cherry blossoms or dogwood branches on it. I thought it was really pretty, and I think I paid four bucks for it.
Of course I picked up some tins! This one, made in England, is in more perfect shape than any I have ever bought before! I paid seven dollars from a store, but it was worth it!

I also got a kitchsy jewelry box that I thought I could clean up, but I don't know if that's really going to happen. Life lesson: Some things can't be cleaned...

It doesn't look so bad here, but it's a mess underneath. hmmm.

Well, that's just a TASTE of all the cool stuff I got with Miss Kate this weekend! She bought vintage hats - they were only five bucks a piece! And they were super intricate and fancy with lace and flowers!

Hot Air Balloons

I've become a little obsessed. I want to see a launch - a million launches...but I never want to ride in one. though pretty - they look ridiculously unstable.

In Which We Visit the CHOCOLATE WORLD EXPO!

This was the line to get into the Chocolate World Expo: With a title like CHOCOLATE WORLD EXPO, you'd expect it to be amazing, and well worth the giant line and hour long wait in the cold. But sadly, for me and my bear, it wasn't that great. There was a LOT of people and samples of very WEIRD chocolate combos, and angry people throwing elbows and tripping people. Gail wanted something brought home for her, so we bought a box of Samoas from some girl scouts, which was, at least, a surefire win. We saw the lunar module: which was cool, and Andy got in a tiny cockpit: and then we got out of there. we did buy some Moon Doggy coffee (excellent), some kind of white chocolate cross bun (okay) and a waffle with rasberry dipped in dark chocolate (maybe too much taste for my mouth). Just a side note: this was not really deserving of the word "WORLD EXPO", it could have easily been the "LONG ISLAND" expo or the "TRI-STATE". I didn't go to any garage sales this weekend (still have stuff to list from last weekend!), so this is what I will show for the linkup: I found an Enesco collector's set of all different Demitasse cups, boxed up as a sort of an instant collection. They are very pretty, and just marked Japan, and looked like they had never been out of their boxes before today, when I took their picture. They'll be listed soon!
